About Our Clinical & Research Centers

A top priority of the PCD Foundation is to ensure that all individuals with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) have access to high-quality diagnosis and care.

This mission is all the more important today as our understanding of PCD continues to grow and diagnostic and treatment standards evolve.

Our ultimate goal is to find a cure for PCD, which requires robust investment in research and active participation from as many individuals with PCD as possible. To help meet this challenge, we are proud to introduce the expanding PCDF Clinical and Research Centers Network (PCDF-CRCN). Developed in collaboration with our international partners, these are networks of clinical centers that serve as hubs for diagnosis, care, research, and patient data collection (via the PCDF Registry).

A Proven Model for Progress

The PCDF-CRCN builds on the foundation laid by the Genetic Disorders of Mucociliary Clearance Consortium (GDMCC)—a network many North American patients and physicians already know well. GDMCC sites continue to serve as leading research centers and referral hubs for both diagnostic and clinical services. With nearly a decade of collaborative experience, these sites also offer mentorship and support to newer centers joining the PCDF-CRCN.

The PCDF-CRCN is modeled after the highly successful Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Care Centers program. Each multidisciplinary site must meet rigorous criteria for diagnosing PCD and follow the PCDF Consensus Guidelines published in Pediatric Pulmonology (2015).

The PCD Foundation plays a central role in building, accrediting, and sustaining the network. Strategic sites are selected based on geographic need, patient access, institutional capacity, and a commitment to excellence in PCD care. All sites undergo a formal accreditation process, which includes comprehensive application reviews and onsite evaluations by PCDF staff and clinical experts. Beyond accreditation, the Foundation provides ongoing education and collaborative opportunities to ensure sites are equipped to offer the highest level of care and to contribute to future research efforts, including clinical trials.

The PCDF-CRCN currently includes over 60 sites at various stages of accreditation—and continues to grow.
